It's dark.
It's cold and dark.
It's cold and dark and bleah.
Dexter looks at me like "SO?"
All of that makes no difference at all- there is good sniffing to be done.
And so we go, me in my layers of wool- and Dexter with nothing on but himself and a big doggy grin.
Through the dark forest.
to the fish ladder- full this time of year.
on the path to the park
Where there have been two board pallets left behind
to frame their own idea of art.
And up there- on that little branch-
There is a bit of colour
a little bud of optimism.
On the road home where Dexter likes to sniff until his little feet come right up off of the ground...
COLOUR!
All in all, this day gets a star, in spite of me being such a grump.
Seems humdrum, taking Dexter for a walk every day. Same ol same ol , day after day, in the grey colourless darkness.
Dexter is ALWAYS enthusiastic- no matter how many times we take the same trail or the same path through the woods, to the park, to the bay...
There is always something to absolutely LOVE -
Wish I had his nose for life!

Good thing you have Dexter to show you the way to happiness. Too bad he won't tell you about the discoveries he makes with his nose. However, I think you two found on your walk some outstanding examples of color and wildness. Yes, big star.
I love the busy water in the fish ladder and the moss and ferny stuff making mulch out of anything that holds still too long~~~~another good reason to keep on walking.
Thank goodness for Dexter to pull you out of a grump! There's always something lovely to see even in the darker months. Obviously it's lovely to be warm all year round here in Malaysia, but I do miss the changing seasons of the West so much!
linda sue - finding colour at this time of year is so mind-blowing and i stare at it and stare at it sucking the colour out of it and into my hungry eyes and a bud!!!! really!!! steven
Dexter is a good teacher. Beautiful walk. I will use your and his example on my walks and look at my surrounding with new eyes.
