The forecast is for - more of the same. Interesting how mental illness goes hand in hand with nature- Folks diagnosed with such may just be following the ebb and flow of nature- not much room for extreme fluctuation in our society, there is no time for kicking back on snowy dark frozen days to reflect- to be unproductive- to fantasize or simply be, especially if those days extend into weeks or taking to eating the furniture or making phone calls to dead relatives to inquire about their well being and if they might like to join you for a picnic on a zip line...
I suppose the difference is "control", Mental illness has none of that, it does seem though, that our society condones (insists upon) homogenization of emotion, feeling, no ups, no downs, just monotone humming right along with the machinery. There are clearly marked lines not to be crossed.
Gone are the characters of the village- the ones who fall to their knees to sing a song to your dog, which your dog enjoys immensely as you roll your eyes and pull away- the ones who change their names every time they are addressed, the ones who may put a hex of gum drops on you for eating your peas before your potatoes.
The ones who, like weather, become extreme.
I have asked the pooch about these things- He listens-
This is how he thinks.
You can count on him to come up with all of the correct answers. He is wise beyond his poochdom! and during this unpredictable unpleasant catatonic bi-polar weather he knows what to do- eat, sleep, piddle and poo... and wait.

The animals know. The birds emptied the feeders yesterday. That big wet storm is supposed to get us next.
Bet the pooch didn't tell you all the correct answers even though he knows. We still have to make a lot of choices and decisions no matter what.
Interesting things to think upon. I don't knpw about the weather but the darkness does not go with work hours. I can hardly drag myself out of bed at the momennt! Glad you have a dog who listens and knows things.
Waiting is often the way to go when we hit those extremes, Linda Sue. Wait and they will pass and in the meantime we can learn from them in ways we cannot earn from the more mundane ordinary moments, which are also necessary.
Oh, I love this. So true. No one is allowed to fluctuate. But I say, fluctuate away. And yes our four legged friends are so forgiving.
yeppers - keep it simple, basic body functions, expect nothing and then everything's a complete bonus!!!! steven
Your dog does what my little grandson does. Simple, easy life - except someone has to change wet and poopy diapers.
I wonder if the lack of sun has anything to do with the overuse of alcohol and with suicides in the higher latitude places that get few hours of sun a day.
The zen of dogdom.
I prescribe a dog for EVERYONE regardless of mental state.
You get to see the world through clear, happy eyes.
The zen of Dexter --wise beyond his years.
Buster says it hibernation weather and he prefers to remain in bed in the afternoon after we get up from our nap.

Linda Sue .. .
YesYesYes.
Your words hit the nail on the head:
Homogenization.
No room for extremes or fluctuation.
I truly believe the only difference between being called Crazy or referred to as Eccentric is the size of your bank account. England reveres their eccentrics.
I aspire to graduating to Eccentric.
Give yourself a break... allow for those fluctuations as part of the ebb and flow of life.

I suppose I am the lucky one as we don't suffer the horrible wet and cold like you do. It is hot here, too hot, and I feel ... dark and gloomy and lethargic. A bit like you do. And a snowstorm or two will be so ENERGIZING. So I am thinking it ain't got nothing to do with the weather. It has got to do with The Other which is just always so much more appealing.
pretty sure it's mental illness....
at least that's what my dog told me.
:-)
love you miss linda. if you get tired of your endless winter, come down my way and we'll bask in some carolina blue sunshine. xo
